Year Completed: 2026 (and still thriving)
Moss Pure was contacted to replace a double-sided preserved moss wall in the Teknor Apex lobby in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The existing preserved moss had faded in color, accumulated dust and what appeared to be mold, and deteriorated to the point that the client elected to completely replace the installation.
The original preserved moss company’s website advertises a lifespan of 10–12 years for its preserved moss products, with longevity of up to 20 years under certain conditions. In this particular installation, however, Moss Pure was brought in to completely replace the preserved moss approximately five years after installation. This is one of several preserved moss installations Moss Pure has been hired to replace nationwide.
Most moss walls are created using preserved moss. Preserved moss is no longer living and undergoes a preservation process, often incorporating preservation agents, softening agents, dyes, or colorants to maintain its appearance. Over time, preserved moss can fade, become brittle, shed, accumulate dust, and otherwise change in appearance, eventually requiring maintenance or replacement.
In this particular installation, the preserved material had noticeably faded and accumulated dust, and Moss Pure observed a strong chemical odor during removal.
The client also told Moss Pure that the previous preserved moss wall company had represented portions of the installation as containing living foliage. According to the client, they did not realize that this foliage was not living until they were able to see and compare the existing preserved materials with Moss Pure’s living moss wall system.
Moss Pure removed and replaced the preserved moss on both sides of the installation with our patented living moss wall system. Unlike purely decorative preserved moss, Moss Pure combines living moss with our patented technology to create an aesthetically pleasing wall that doubles as an air filter and stress relief device and is engineered for longevity.
The Moss Pure Living Moss Wall System and Air Filter
Preserved moss walls are typically created by attaching preserved moss to a backing or wall surface. In some cases, this can includes preserved foliage.
Moss Pure is fundamentally different. Moss Pure is an invention, a scientifically engineered living moss wall system designed for aesthetics, art, and longevity.
We don’t simply attach live moss to a frame. Live moss on its own would not survive for more than a few days. Moss Pure works because of our patented science. Every Moss Pure product incorporates our patented and proprietary technology into a fully assembled system designed to keep our living moss alive without routine maintenance, watering, sunlight, or electricity. We even fabricate our frames and custom logo integrations in-house, allowing the entire piece to be designed and built as one finished system.
That distinction is important. Simply placing live moss onto a wall would not create Moss Pure, would not provide the same longevity, and would not create our patented air-filter system. Live moss by itself is not Moss Pure’s air filter. It is the combination of living moss with our patented engineering that enables Moss Pure to function as an air filter and stress relief device while also serving as an aesthetically pleasing architectural feature.
Moss Pure isn’t simply moss added to a wall. The technology is built into every piece. That’s what differentiates Moss Pure from conventional moss walls and other decorative green-wall products.

Moss Pure’s living moss installation captures approximately 18.1 pounds of CO₂ annually based on Moss Pure’s testing results from a certified third-party laboratory. Using EPA greenhouse-gas equivalencies, that is approximately equivalent to the emissions generated by driving an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle 20 miles.
