Double Sided Live Moss Circle Frame

For this private residential project, Moss Pure engineered and fabricated a custom double-sided 4-foot diameter circular frame using CNC fabrication, custom white oak, and a custom stain finish — all integrated within our proprietary and patented 100% living moss wall system and air filter.

Unlike preserved moss, this is a true LIVE moss air filtration system designed to function as both luxury art and a scientifically engineered living environment. To accommodate the suspended installation, custom eye bolts were integrated into the structure so the piece could safely hang from the ceiling within the home. This project pushed the boundaries of what is possible with living moss design. Engineering a circular, suspended, double-sided living moss system required extensive consideration of airflow, weight distribution, structural integrity, biological performance, and long-term sustainability of the living environment itself. This was truly a unique design.

Unique Live Moss Design

The LIVE moss design for this project was truly unique. We went out of our comfort zones and used different species and subspecies of live moss to create this truly innovative piece. We usually work with our lush dark green live mosses or two different colors of live moss – as we believe that the true beauty and aesthetic of our product is that it is LIVE moss – and it speaks for itself. However, when we do innovative designs, we do make sure it emulates nature and is as free flowing as possible. You can only do this with our live moss. Preserved moss just doesn’t have the same aesthetic as LIVE moss.

The first side of the piece is the client’s logo in 3 different color variations of LIVE moss. We are constantly asked why our live moss is so vibrant. The truth is – it’s because it’s LIVE moss. We do NOT use preserved moss – which looks fake, fades, gives off a chemical smell, and needs constant replacement.

The second side of the piece is the client’s custom drawing in 3 different color variations of LIVE moss. The REAL challenge here was making LIVE moss (which is a breathing, living, and moving biological being) look realistic to the design, while ensuring that our patented technology and science was intact. We had to still make sure that our live moss was able to stay alive in our product design without watering, sunlight, or maintenance, and we still had to assemble our living moss air filter within the product. Ensuring that every moving part worked was a unique challenge.

Moss Pure: Live Moss Wall System

If you’ve seen a moss wall out and about or on the internet, it is NOT made of real or living moss. Other moss walls use a product called preserved moss, which is not real, NOT living, treated and processed with chemicals, and needs constant replacement. The reason why preserved moss doesn’t last is because it’s not made of real or living moss. It becomes like a piece of carpet, fading in color with time and collecting dust and mold. Preserved moss is a temporary and decorative art material that is NOT made to last but made to replace and maintain.

Companies that use preserved moss are typically florists that are just gluing preserved moss onto a wall in a decorative but temporary piece of art. These florists and preserved moss companies are expecting that the preserved moss will not last so that they can continuously replace it. They are used to replacing and maintaining plants, plant walls, and flowers in corporate spaces. These companies rely on routine maintenance.

Moss Pure is an invention and the world’s first and only company to use 100% LIVE moss in a built to last design. Moss Pure is NOT preserved moss. Moss Pure is a scientifically engineered LIVE moss wall system. We build our system into a frame – yes we create our frames and logos all in house. This fully finished living moss system is designed to keep our living moss alive without needing routine maintenance, watering, sunlight, or electricity. Our patented and proprietary science is why. We are NOT just adding moss to a frame. We build out and assemble our technology into every Moss Pure piece – which is why our product has a much higher quality, aesthetic, and longevity compared to other green wall products out there. If we were just to add live moss onto a wall, it wouldn’t last and it wouldn’t be an air filter. Live moss on it’s own is not an air filter – it’s Moss Pure’s design that makes our products unique. This is why Moss Pure’s product is engineered to last for years.

Moss Pure is LIVE moss – not preserved moss (what other moss is made of). Other companies use preserved moss, which is no longer living, treated with toxic chemicals, gives off a nasty chemical smell, and does not last a year without needing complete replacement.

Why does Moss Pure last while the other companies don’t? Our founder and CEO invented a brand new, patented system and device that keeps living moss alive without needing watering, sunlight or maintenance. This invention won first place in an MIT startup competition in June 2020 where Moss Pure was created. Short answer: living moss won’t survive without Moss Pure’s science. It’s our science that is the key to making our products work. But, Moss Pure was not designed to look like a scientific device. Instead, it is a high-end, aesthetically pleasing decor piece for Fortune 1000 companies, corporate offices, life science and biotech companies, software companies, healthcare, luxury residential clients, and modern homes.

While the final result was incredibly rewarding, projects like this also reinforce why we typically recommend our 3D terrain living moss designs. The living moss itself is the art — and our 3D terrain designs are intentionally crafted to maximize both the aesthetic beauty and long-term performance of the living moss environment.
